Mission, Vision, Purpose
Green Village Philadelphia is a 501C(3) public charity whose mission is to foster and support neighborhood development that restores and sustains the community of life for our selves and for future generations.
Our vision is a sustainable urban neighborhood, a Green Village, built around a central marketplace and public common spaces, where commerce, education, creative expression, social interaction and environmental stewardship are built into the daily flow of life.
Our purpose is to develop and manage a vibrant model for sustainable urban living near center city Philadelphia. Green Village Philadelphia will acquire and place in trust underutilized land adjacent to an economically sensitive residential area, easily accessible from downtown, and develop a convivial community that will create green jobs and green housing in the context of a living urban experiment.
Above all the Green Village Philadelphia Eco-village will provide a living laboratory and center for education and research into regenerative development, habitat restoration, community health, and sustainable neighborhood revitalization.
Core Objectives
The Green Village will be a diverse community of socially responsible businesses, nonprofits, government agencies, and mixed income residents. It will bring together, in one accessible destination, the goods, services and jobs of a local Green Economy that will be integrated into and serve the needs of the neighborhood and wider community. Our Core Objective is to create an evolving community that:
- Is designed for multi-use, mixed income, and multi-generation living, working, learning, creating and playing.
- Is a home, a showroom and an incubator for triple bottom-line businesses, green entrepreneurs and innovative and creative groups.
- Embraces nature as a partner and model for rehabilitation and renewal.
- Utilizes green design, conservation and ecological engineering strategies.
- Facilitates resource-sharing to make sustainable strategies accessible to all.
- Provides mentoring and training, and generates employment in green business.
- Fosters connection and collaboration between residents, businesses and the natural resources that sustain life (land, air, water).
- Supports and celebrates a local, sustainable food system and fosters education in nutrition.
- Studies, explores and supports healthy lifestyles and holistic healing.
- Is integrated with the fabric of the city at its edges and through its connections.
- Is a beautiful, nurturing and healthy habitat that will define a new aesthetic for urban living.
- Creates a shopping, business, healing arts, creative arts and educational destination for visitors.
